Girls put up a stellar performance in the arts and commerce streams, while boys excelled in the science stream’s merit list in the Class 12 examinations conducted by the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBoSE), the results for which were declared on Monday.

The overall pass percentage was 62.01%. The results are available on the HPBOSE’s website at hpbose.org.

HPBoSE chairman Suresh Kumar Soni said 95,492 students appeared for the examinations, of which 58,949 passed. As many as 16,102 candidates got a compartment. Soni said the pass percentage has declined by a significant 8% as compared to last year’s 70.18%.

He said the low pass percentage was due to curb on mass copying after CCTV cameras were installed at all the 1980 exam centres.

The examinations were conducted between March 6 and 29.

Soni said the government schools have fared better this time with total 31 students making it to the merit list. Twenty-seven students of private school figured in the merit list this year.

He further said that candidates who want their answer sheets re-evaluated or re-checked may apply within 15 days.

Science stars

Anil Kumar of Sai Star School, Dhalpur, Kullu district topped the science stream by scoring 98.6%, followed by Prakriti Thakur of Little Angel Public School, Mehre, Hamirpur district, Saanvi Sankhyan of Minerva Senior Secondary School, Ghumarwin, Bilaspur district and Jeevesh Awasthi of SVN Sr. Sec. School Kunihar, Solan district who jointly bagged the second position by scoring 98.2% marks.

Shubhangini of Govt Sr. Sec. School, Gopalpur, Mandi district bagged third position by scoring 98% marks. Of 27 students’ in the topper’s list 17 are girls and 10 boys.

Arts Aces

In the arts stream, Ashmita Sharma of DAV Sr. Sec. School, Una grabbed the top spot with 96.4% marks, followed by Sakshi Thakur of Govt Sr. Sec. School, Darbiar, Hamirpur district, at the second position with 96% marks.

Kartikeya Kohal of BBNB Govt Sr. Sec. School Saloh, Una bagged the third position by scoring 95.8% marks. Of the 18 students in the toppers’ list 16 are girls and only two boys.

Commerce champs

Preity Birsanta of Career Acedmy Sr. Sec. School, Nahan, Sirmour district topped the commerce stream by scoring 98.8% marks, followed by Ishita Aggarwal of Adarsh Vidya Niketan Public Sr. Sec. School, Nahan, at the second position with 98.4% marks.

Dikshu Sharma of Govt (Girls) Sr. Sec. School, Rohru, Shimla district bagged third position with 97.6% marks. Of the 13 students in the merit list 10 are girls and three boys.
