Star Wars: Marvel boss Kevin Feige hits back at claims fans are tired of the franchiseBy The Independent

Marvel president Kevin Feige has denied that audiences are experiencing “Star Wars fatigue” and need a break from the franchise.

Disney CEO Bob Iger suggested to the New York Times in September that there may have been “too much [Star Wars] in the marketplace too fast”, following the underperformance of Han Solo origin movie Solo: A Star War Story and backlash to 2017’s The Last Jedi.

But Feige, who in September was confirmed to be producing his own Star Wars movie, has insisted that is not the case.

“Well they’ve made about five movies in about five years and it’s made over five billion dollars, so I think they’re doing just fine with Star Wars,” he told the Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter Podcast. “And Rise of Skywalker looks incredible to me.”

As for his own Star Wars movie, Feige teased: “I love that world and I love the notion of exploring new people and new places in that universe. But that’s sort of all that can be said for now.”

The cinematic future of the Star Wars franchise has been ambiguous for several months, most recently via the departure of Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss from their own planned Star Wars trilogy.

According to Variety executive editor Brent Lang, Iger confirmed in a recent Disney shareholders meeting that Star Wars will go “into a [cinematic] hiatus” following the December release of The Rise of Skywalker, with a focus for the time being on television.

The Mandalorian, a Star Wars series starring Pedro Pascal and Werner Herzog, will premiere on new streaming service Disney+ on 12 November, while an Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor is currently in development.
