Disney+ has dropped the maiden episode of its new show 'Diary of a Future President' and it's endearing to say the least.

It opens with a busy president's office where a staff member is seen pushing a trolly across the hallway to deliver a high priority envelope to the newly-elected president - Elena Canero-Reed (Gina Rodriquez). Upon opening it, she sees her middle school diary, which holds a day-to-day account of her journey to becoming the president of the United States of America.

Cut to the past, we see a 12-year-old plucking her eyebrows and doing her hair in messy waves for school. In this scene, we meet the aspiring Elena (Tess Romero), a regular teen who is a focused and bright child living in Miami with her mother Gabriella (Selenis Leyva) and brother Bobby (Charlie Bushnell). Her dreams weren't too big then. She only wished her best friend, Jessica, would still talk to her.

As she moves through her day in school, we are informed that Elena isn't the one who forgets homework and is a diligent student. But slip-ups happen. She missed completing her social sciences assignment and is a bundle of nerves when asked to present what she had prepared, before the class. Twitchy and anxious, Elena began her speech about World War II that began in 1939 and how it changed people and places. Her essay carefully outlined how countries joined forces, became Allies to defeat the Axis powers.

As she concluded her presentation, Jessica was visibly moved and you could see it had impacted her in a positive way. The same person who'd not miss an opportunity to mock Elena for not being on her periods (and therefore still not grown-up), had slowly begun to warm up to her. Elena realizes this when Jessica tones down on her sarcasm while Melissa flaunts their fancy post-school mall trip that includes massages and coffee dates.

Elena returns to her home and wonders if Jessica could be an ally? To arrange her thoughts she picked up a diary her father left her and began jotting her points in it, which later became her guidebook of sorts.

In a nutshell, it's a warm premiere episode that sets the tone for bigger, better ambitions of a little girl who is capable of changing her surroundings and the people in it.
