Stage set for J P Nadda's election as new BJP chief on Jan 20By uniindia
New Delhi, Jan 17 (UNI) The BJP on Friday announced the poll schedule for election of its new national president.
In all likelihood, BJP's working president and former Union Minister J P Nadda is set to succeed Mr Amit Shah,who is Home Minister.
The nomination process for election of party chief has been fixed on January 20, senior party leader and party's national election in-charge Radha Mohan Singh announced here.
According to the schedule, nomination papers can be filed from 1000 hrs to 1230 hrs and the papers will be scrutinised by 1330 hrs.
Mr Singh, who was also Union Agriculture Minister between 2014 and 2019, announced that the nomination can be withdrawn between 1330 hrs to 1430 hrs.
"...if necessary polling will take place on January 21," Mr Singh stated adding the voting process, if required will take place between 1000 hrs and 1400 hrs.
A marathon process of organisational elections at booths, district and state levels have been going around for last few months.
Mr Shah had taken charge of Delhi as national chief in 2014 from Rajnath Singh.
Interestingly, in 2013, the BJP's national president poll was marred by high drama as on the last moment, Nitin Gadkari had to withdraw his nomination and the mantle of leadership had fallen on Rajnath Singh
The present Defence Minister has been BJP national president from 2005 to 2009.
