After missing his entire rookie season while recovering from a disastrous knee injury he suffered in college, Dallas Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith has played in all 48 regular season games over the last three seasons and has enjoyed immense success. His play even earned him a lucrative contract extension.

But perhaps even better than Smith's relentless work ethic is his ability and willingness to adapt. Two years after drafting Smith, the Cowboys took linebacker Leighton Vander Esch with their 2018 first-round selection, and there's been chatter about Smith moving from middle linebacker to weakside linebacker, but he's remained in the middle so far.

That might change in 2020 with the Cowboys bringing in new defensive coordinator Mike Nolan.

A lot of players, especially those of Smith's caliber, are more apt to fuss about a position change. But the former Notre Dame star is a rare breed, happy to be playing the sport he loves and excited to dominate in whatever role he's given.

One could say this is the kind of positive offseason news Cowboys fans need after being inundated with Dak Prescott contract extension nonsense.

Plus, with a healthy Vander Esch ready to get back on the field next season, Smith likely knows he has ample support on a stacked Cowboys defense, especially with their loaded linebacking corps that consists of the aforementioned two and seasoned veteran Sean Lee.
