Chidambaram referred to AIIMS for stomach painBy Live Mint

New Delhi: Former finance minister P Chidambaram, lodged in Tihar jail since August 21, was referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, on Saturday, after he complained of stomach pain.

Doctors at the premier medical institute said they were conducting medical tests.

“Chidambaram was brought to AIIMS at around 1:30 PM today in the emergency department. We are currently monitoring his condition,” according to a source in AIIMS.

Chidambaram had earlier asked for home cooked food in the jail, stating that he was suffering from various medical ailments.

“We have not admitted him. He may be discharged in sometime after he is relieved of discomfort,” said the AIIMS source quoted above.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered an FIR on May 15, 2017, alleging irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board's (FIPB's) clearance to the INX Media group for receiving overseas funds to the tune of ₹305 crore in 2007. Chidambaram was the finance minister then.
