It's a bird, it's a plane...it's Daniel Mengden!

That's right, the Oakland Athletics pitcher isn't just throwing strikes in the summer, he's also saving puppies in the offseason from a storm drain in Houston.

While many neighbors surrounding the storm drain had heard the cries of several puppies, Mengden happened to drive by the chaos of the moment.

Immediately, Mengden ran home, grabbed his hunting waders and went to work saving one puppy at a time. Some were happy to be rescued, while others were attacking Mengden and other rescuers due to how nervous they were.

While there might be a few professional athletes that would've just kept driving, this act really shows what kind of selfless person Mengden is.

The dogs were then brought to a shelter, leaving Mengden the hero of the wild situation.

What an incredible gesture. Hopefully the good karma comes back to him and he can help bring the A's back to the playoffs next year.
