Dancer in need of money, turns to robbery to maintain girlfriends and careerBy IndiaToday

A special team of the Delhi Police arrested Adnan Khan Addi on Monday (January 22) for allegedly robbing a pizza franchise last month.

Addi, a popular dancer in Delhi's restaurants and clubs, was always short of money. He decided to be part of a gang so that money from robbing could fund his dancing career and also help maintain his various 'girlfriends'.

On December 11, 2017, Amit Yadav, a manager at the Sector 12, Dwarka outlet of a pizza franchise complained that some unidentified people with big knives had entered the pizza store at about 03:30 am on December 11, 2017, and escaped with around Rs 3.5 lakh after threatening him and his staff. A case of robbery was registered.

Delhi Police formed a dedicated team to investigate the robbery. Surveillance was increased, CCTV footages were analysed and history-sheeters were hauled in for questioning.

Soon Ram, one of the kingpins of the robbery, was arrested. On interrogation, Ram revealed that there were four people involved in the case, including a popular dancer.

On January 21, the police received specific information that Addi would come to a bus stop near Dwarka Mor. The police laid a trap and on January 22 at around 8:20 am Addi was arrested.

On questioning Addi's life story unspooled.

Son of a car mechanic, Addi a Class 10 dropout, started taking dance lessons at an early age. Soon dance became his passion. He even has a YouTube channel. In 2014, he won a Mr Uttarakhand dance competition.

From local performances, Addi graduated to participating in Delhi club circuit and restaurants. Soon it was TV in shows such as Dance India Dance, Jhalak Dikhla Ja, and Nach Baliye among others. He was also offered a role in a Hindi film.

But for all his popularity money was hard to come by. And on top of that was his growing popularity among girls. He needed money to maintain his group of girlfriends.

His neighbour, Ram, lured him into robbing the pizza franchise. Desperate for money, Addi said yes to Ram's plan. After the robbery, Addi absconded staying at various places and kept changing his mobile phone number.

But on the morning of January 22, his run finally ran out and he fell into the police trap.
