1. Vijayawada Man Beheads Wife on Street, Surrenders

A man beheaded his wife in Andhra Pradesh and then carried her severed head through the streets of Vijayawada on Sunday, the police said.

The shocking incident occurred in Srinagar colony under Satyanarayanapuram police station limits.

According to the police, Pradeep Kumar slit his wife Manikranti's (23) throat with a knife near their house. He then beheaded her and was seen walking briskly on the street with her head in one hand and a knife in the other.

CCTVs installed in the colony recorded people running in horror on seeing the killer with the severed head.

Pradeep threw the head in a nearby canal and then surrendered at Satyanarayanapuram police station.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Rao told reporters that the search was on for the severed head. The headless body was shifted to a government-run hospital for autopsy.

2. Man Stabbed to Death by Wife, Her Lover in Rajasthan's Kota

A 30-year-old man was stabbed to death in his sleep allegedly by his wife and her lover in Rajasthan's Kota city, police said on Sunday.

To cover up the crime, the victim's wife called the police control room on Saturday to report that three unidentified men entered the house, snatched her mangalsutra and robbed Rs 18,000 in cash, Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhargav said.

When her husband resisted, they killed him, she told the police.

The SP said that during the investigation, police noticed contradictions in the statement given by the woman and her younger sister, following which they were interrogated.

During the questioning, the woman confessed to having killed her husband along with her lover while her 14-year-old sister was present in the room when the crime was being committed, he said, adding on their instance, the woman's lover, Om Prakash, was arrested from Baran district.

3. Auto Driver Held for Killing Elderly Woman in Gurgaon

Almost 10 days after a 72-year-old woman was found dead in her house at Gurgaon’s DLF Phase I, police arrested an auto driver for the crime. Another accused, who allegedly planned the murder and worked in the woman’s house as a labourer, is still absconding.

Police said the victim, Indra Khanna, was found dead at her home on August 2. “An FIR was registered, and CCTV footage of all nearby cameras was checked. Labourers working at the woman’s home were questioned. On August 8, one of the accused was arrested from West Bengal’s Nadia district,” said Gurgaon Police PRO Subhash Boken.

The accused, Gautamdas (28), was arrested and taken into four days’ transit remand. “During questioning, he said he and the labourer decided to murder the woman and steal her jewellery as they were having financial issues,” Boken said.

4. Delhi Man Absconding in Murder Case Arrested from Agra

A 22-year-old man absconding in a murder case for more than a year was arrested from Agra, police said on Sunday.

The accused, Jeetesh, carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, was wanted in the murder case where he along with his associates had allegedly killed one Vijay Kumar in Nand Nagri area in March last year, they said.

In another case in October last year, Jeetesh, along with his associates Samir, Prashant and Ansul, had set a car of one Kartar Singh on fire to avenge the death of his father, police said.

In 2017, Jeetesh married a girl from another community, following which his wife's relatives killed his father last year. Thereafter, he along with his friends set the car of Singh, his wife's relative, on fire, they said.

Jeetesh was also declared a proclaimed offender by a city court, they added.

He fled to Agra after the two incidents and was nabbed from the city on Saturday following a tip-off, police said.

5. Fake TV Journalist, Sham Food Inspector Held on Extortion Charges

The Ghaziabad police has arrested two persons on charges of trying to extort money from an Indirapuram's sweetmeat shop owner while posing as a TV journalist and a food inspector, police said on Sunday.

The fake TV journalist identified as Sanjay Singh would threaten to "expose" the shop owner by telecasting news on the sale of adulterated sweets by the shop while the man identified as Sunil Kumar, posing as area food inspector, would threaten to lift the food sample and initiate legal proceedings which would lead to the shopkeeper's arrest, said Indirapuranm police station in-charge Deepak Sharma.

The police also seized two mikes, 10 identity cards and 18 stickers of Crime News 7 channel, 8 pass books, some cash and several ATM cards from the duo, said Sharma.

6. Man Held in Bihar for Trying to Dupe MLA, Official

A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to dupe a JD(U) MLA and a government official by posing as officer on special duty to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Kishanganj district, police said on Sunday.

Shashibhushan Kumar alias Ratnesh, who had called MLA Mujahid Alam and an executive engineer of the Rural Development Department last week claiming to be an OSD to the chief minister, was arrested from Kudhni police station area of Muzaffarpur district late Saturday night, Director General of Police Gupteshwar Pandey said.

Alam, who represents Kochadhaman assembly seat of Kishanganj, told over phone that he had received two phone calls from the accused on August 1 and was asked whether he had made any complaint against executive engineer Amal Prakash.

7. After Serving 17-Year Jail Term for Murder, Delhi Man Held for Attempt to Murder

Three years since he was released after serving 17 years in jail for murder, a 44-year-old man was arrested in another attempt to murder case on Wednesday.

The suspect Hemchand was earlier jailed for the murder of fashion designer Kunjum Budhiraja in 1999. He was convicted and sent to life in prison. After 17 years, he was released.

The latest arrest follows a case in 2017. Police said Hemchand, also known as Nani, had then attacked a man in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri.

The victim in the case, Aman Kumar, was a local criminal and the two were rivals. Hemchand had started demanding “protection money” from his prospective victims soon after his release in the 1999 case from Tihar jail, the police said.

Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Ram Gopal Naik said that on the day of the crime, Kumar and his friend Ravi were eating at an eatery in Mangolpuri’s P-block. Hemchand arrived there and entered into an argument with the duo. During the altercation, Hemchand took out a knife and attacked Kumar inflicting multiple serious stab wounds.

8. Mentally-Challenged Woman Tied to Tree, Beaten Up in Lucknow

Nine people were arrested for allegedly tying a 40-year-old mentally-challenged woman to a tree and beating her up on the suspicion of child lifting at Rehli village in Gonda district on Saturday.

Police have booked 19 people, including 10 unidentified ones, for the incident.

At least six videos of the assault have been circulated widely. One video shows several women slapping the victim, identified as Noor Jahan from the neighbouring Shahpur village, and pulling her hair. In another video, people are seen asking Jahan what she “has done with the kidnapped children”.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of Nawabganj Police Station, Bhanu Pratap Singh, said Jahan was beaten up with flip-flops and shoes. She suffered non-serious injuries and underwent a medical examination, he said.

9. Woman Held for Running Prostitution Racket in Mumbai

A 51-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly running a sex racket at her residence in suburban Kandivali through social media, police said on Sunday.

Three women have been rescued from the flat.

The woman used to send photographs of women to customers through a social messaging application and call them at her residence in sector 2 of Charkop, an official said.

On receiving a specific input, crime branch Unit 11 officials sent a decoy customer at the flat on Saturday and conducted a raid, he said.

Police have recovered Rs 28,000 and 12 mobile phones from the accused, he said, adding that a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
