Commending Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu's decision to reject the Opposition's notice to impeach Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy today slammed the Congress party saying that the "Congress committed suicide by doing this".

"Vice-President was right in his choice and wisdom. Congress party has no reason to move such a notice. They only want to disrupt the judiciary. He has decided correctly. He need not have taken two days to make the decision. It should've been considered null and void and thrown out from the beginning. Congress committed suicide by doing this," Swamy said.

Earlier today, Naidu rejected the notice to impeach Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra. The notice was submitted by seven Opposition parties, including the Congress.

The notice was submitted to Venkaiah Naidu, the chairperson of Rajya Sabha, on Friday by Leader of Opposition in the Upper House.

The notice had signatures from 64 Rajya Sabha MPs and seven former MPs. Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Kapil Sibal said the Opposition moved the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice of India on grounds of "misbehaviour".

"What!! VP Naidu rejects impeachment motion against CJI signed by 64 RS MPs! On what grounds? He has no power to say that charges are not made out. That's for the inquiry committee of 3 judges. He only has to see if it's signed by >50 MPs & possibly if charges are of misbehaviour," eminent lawyer Prashant Bhushan tweeted shortly after Naidu's decision.

Several other political leaders also voiced their concern over the matter. Congress leader PL Punia said that his party will talk to legal experts and decide on its next move.
