Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss sign '£165 million' Netflix deal to make new TV shows and filmsBy Evening Standard

Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and Dan 'D.B' Weiss have signed a multi-year film and TV deal with Netflix reportedly worth around £165 million ($200 million).

Both have moved on from producing shows for HBO - where they were showrunners and writers for eight seasons of the hit fantasy show - and will work on projects exclusively for Netflix, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

They will be following in the footsteps of Shonda Rhimes and Ryan Murphy who have also signed huge deals with the streaming service.

The pair's existing commitments to an ongoing multi-film agreement with Disney for the Star Wars franchise will be exempt from the deal.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos told Deadline: “We are thrilled to welcome master storytellers David Benioff and Dan Weiss to Netflix.

“They are a creative force and have delighted audiences worldwide with their epic storytelling. We can’t wait to see what their imaginations will bring to our members.”

Benioff and Weiss added: “We’ve had a beautiful run with HBO for more than a decade and we’re grateful to everyone there for always making us feel at home. Over the past few months we’ve spent many hours talking to Cindy Holland and Peter Friedlander, as well as Ted Sarandos and Scott Stuber.

“We remember the same shots from the same ‘80s movies; we love the same books; we’re excited about the same storytelling possibilities. Netflix has built something astounding and unprecedented, and we’re honoured they invited us to join them.”

As well as a forthcoming Star Wars trilogy, the duo have also written a Kurt Cobain film for Universal and are set to adapt the novel Dirty White Boys for Fox and Disney.
