Kate Middleton wears green to the all-black BAFTA Awards' red carpet; Twitter reactsBy IndiaToday

At the Golden Globe Awards 2018, a war was waged against ongoing sexual harassment in the entertainment industry, a war called the Time's Up movement.

From Oprah Winfrey's powerful speech to a red carpet that had celebrities dressed in all-black, the movement caught on like wildfire, and had its sparks light a fire at the Grammys too.

The music industry joined hands against sexual harassment, with celebs walking the Grammys' red carpet carrying white roses.

After Golden Globes and Grammys, the 71st British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA Awards 2018), gave the world yet another red carpet drenched in black--and warned the predators that their Time's Up.

While the BAFTA Awards 2018 red carpet saw most celebs, including Anjelina Jolie and Jennifer Lawrence, comply to the colour-code (an all-black outfit) for the event, Kate Middleton opted for a forest-green gown--thereby sparking a controversy.

First things first, for what might look like the Duchess' defiance to the colour-code for the night, is actually her compliance with the public protocols for the British Royals. The Royals cannot wear an all-black outfit for any event except a funeral, or Remembrance Day.

The Royals have to refrain from making any political statements or joining any protests, however legit it may be--for Kate, being a part of a movement like #TimesUp would mean breaking a protocol.

While she might have steered away from making a strong statement, her black belt and clutch are being looked upon as signs of mild support for this women-oriented movement.

Kate's choice of a dark-green colour is also being presumed as a homage to the Suffragette movement--a movement dedicated to women's sufferings--while showing support for the Time's Up movement too.

While most people are trying to gauge the intensity of Kate's support for the movement, there are a few who believe that Kate should have broken the protocol like Meghan--who is not a Royal yet--does. But the truth is, Kate has never broken a Royal protocol.

Dear #KateMiddleton your time is up! A black belt? Seriously? We're ready for our new role model in Meghan Markle! #BAFTAs2018

Apart from comparisons being drawn between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, here's how netizens have reacted:

Isn't being upset that #DuchessofCambridge worn dark green instead of black kind of ironic in a movement connected to women having the freedom to their choices... #BAFTAs #DuchessKate #KateMiddleton

So now #Katemiddleton has upset the luvies on Twitter because she didn't wear a black dress to support #MeToo .

Do these people understand royal protocol? Also, are we now at the point of forcing women to wear certain clothes and shaming them if they don't?

Anyone who knows anything about the Royal family know that they do not and can not define themselves politically in the public eye. #KateMiddleton not wearing black isn't a statement. It's a lack of one. She is respecting the rules of royalty. #metoo

With such mixed reactions, we wonder what the Royals have to say about Kate's green gown.
