Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is producing a horror franchise for the first time and the series of films have been titled Bhoot. The poster of the first film in the franchise, Bhoot — Part One: The Haunted Ship, directed by debutant Bhanu Pratap Singh, was released earlier today.

The copyright of the title Bhoot though was with filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who made the acclaimed horror film with the same name in 2003. The film starred Urmila Matondkar and Ajay Devgn.

Karan though was keen on the Bhoot title for his horror film franchise as he thought it was the most appropriate.

Interestingly, Karan and RGV have had a history of taking jabs at each other’s work on Twitter, though they have refrained from commenting on one another in the last few years.

Even then, Karan reached out to RGV and requested for the title. And to his surprise RGV instantly agreed. Karan said that he was blown away by Ram Gopal Varma’s “generosity.”

RGV also took to Twitter to appreciate the poster of the film.

Bhoot — Part One: The Haunted Ship stars Vicky Kaushal in the lead. The film is set to release in theatres on 15 November.
