Clay Matthews may not have the best history with the Philadelphia Eagles, but now that the Los Angeles Rams have kicked him to the curb, there is no better home for the linebacker than the City of Brotherly Love.

The Eagles' pass rush isn't bad at all, but they need that extra bit of class to put them over the edge when it counts. While Matthews may not be the world-beater he was at the top of his prime in Green Bay, he's seen a little bit of everything.

Matthews has a Super Bowl ring, has played in six Pro Bowls, and had eight sacks last season. Brandon Graham, the Eagles' most prolific pass rusher in 2019, had 8.5. With operators like Graham and Fletcher Cox returning to the Birds' front seven, one more proven veteran could push the defense from good to great.

Matthews wouldn't be terribly expensive at this point, either. The Eagles have a decent amount of cap space left, and Matthews was making around $4.6 million a year with the Rams. Especially now that he's 34 years old, a one-year deal would give Philly a low-risk chance to see how he fits in with the defense and if he's worth keeping around straight on until his playing days are over.

Was Matthews wrecked by a block from Eagles offensive lineman Allen Barbre in 2016? Yes. Did the Eagles release his younger brother, Casey, in 2015? Yes.

Should he put the past behind him to make the Eagles' pass rush as strong as it's been in quite a while? Absolutely.
