When the Cubs completed a waiver trade for Daniel Murphy late last season, they understood the prospect of keeping the former All-Star was farfetched at best.

Losing Murphy to their rival and NL Central champion Brewers? Now that likely wasn't in Chicago's long-term plans. Yet, according to Robert Murphy, the Brewers are interested in the switch-hitting infielder.

Murphy is a reliable hitter, as he finished second in MVP voting in 2016 and backed that up with a solid campaign spend partially in the NL Central. Murphy is, however, a liability defensively, making his presence in the NL without a DH rather unsettling. Robert Murphy notes just this via TheAthletic:

"According to Mark Simon of Sports Info Solutions, Murphy, 33, ranks last in DRS (Defensive Runs Saved) since 2016 with minus-45. His DRS in 2019 – minus-18 – came in 535.1 innings. He committed six errors in 71 games in 2018, a error every 11.8 games," Murphy writes.

Nonetheless, adding Murphy to an already-powerful lineup doesn't seem fair in a loaded NL Central. Brewers fans are all for it.
