COVID-19: Bihar’s Patna to Remain Under Lockdown from 10-16 JulyBy TheQuint

The number of coronavirus cases in India rose by 22,752 to 7,42,417 on Wednesday, 8 July, while the death toll increased by 482 to 20,642. According to the Union Health Ministry data, there are now 2,64,944 active cases across the country, while 4,56,830 patients have been cured or discharged, and one has migrated.

Meanwhile, the District Magistrate of Bihar's capital, Patna, has ordered a lockdown from 10 to 16 July, reported ANI.

Earlier on Wednesday, a statement by the Jharkhand government said that the Chief Minister Hemant Soren has placed himself under home quarantine in Ranchi after a minister whom he met tested positive for COVID-19.

2,033 COVID-19 Cases in Delhi

With 2,033 new COVID-19 cases and 48 deaths on Wednesday, the total number of cases in the national capital is now at 1,04,864, including 78,199 recovered/discharged/migrated, 23,452 active cases and 3,213 deaths, ANI reports citing Delhi Health Department.

Hemant Soren Quarantines After Minister Whom He Met Tests COVID-19 Positive

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has placed himself under home quarantine in Ranchi after a minister whom he met tested positive for COVID-19, a statement by the Jharkhand government said on Wednesday.

The CM has also requested all officers and staff of the CMO to undergo home quarantine, the statement said, adding that the entry to the CM's residence will be prohibited.

The state minister who had tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday is Mithlesh Thakur.

Odisha's COVID-19 Tally Rises to 10,624; BJD MLA Tests Positive

As many as 527 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Odisha in the last 24 hours, taking the tally in the state to 10,624, including 48 deaths.

BJD MLA Prashant Behera has also tested positive for coronavirus, becoming the second legislator in Odisha to get infected, PTI reported.

The United States has reported 60,209 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours, a new record, while the death toll has risen to 1,31,362, news agency AFP reported on Wednesday, citing the Johns Hopkins University tally.
