Chennai, Nov 15 (UNI) The Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Gaja’ over Southwest
Bay of Bengal moved further westsouthwestwards and its outer cloud
patch has touched the Karaikal coast and it now lay centered about
130 km east of Karaikal coast.
It would move west-southwestwards and cross the coast between Pamban
and Cuddalore near Nagapattinam by 2300 hrs tonight as a Cyclonic
Storm with a wind speed of 80-90 kmph and gusting to 100 kmph.
The Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority said as per the
latest updates the cyclone is likely to have a landfall between
2000 hrs and 2300 hrs in Nagapattinam district.
The Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Gaja’ was being monitored by Doppler Weather
Radar Chennai and Karaikal since Thursday morning.
Under its influence, rainfall would occur at most places with heavy to very
heavy at a few places over Tamilnadu and Puducherry.
Extremely heavy falls, in excess of 20 cm, would occur over Cuddalore,
Nagappattinam, Karaikal, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Tuticorin
and Ramanathapuram districts, where schools and colleges were declared
a holiday for today and tomorrow.
Rainfall would also occur at most places with heavy falls at a few places
and very heavy at isolated places over south interior Tamil Nadu.

Squally winds with speed reaching 50-60 kmph and gusting to 70 kmph would
prevail along and off Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts and 40-50 kmph
gusting to 60 kmph along and off adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coast.
It is very likely to increase gradually becoming Gale wind speed ranging
80-90 kmph and gusting to 100 kmph along and off central parts of Tamil
Nadu and Puducherry coasts from 2000 hours tonight to subsequent six hours.
