Jawaharlal Nehru's statue defaced in West Bengal's BurdwanBy IndiaToday

A week after statues of Lenin were taken down in Tripura after BJP assumed power in the state a similar incident has come to light from Burdwan district of West Bengal.

Black ink was hurled at the bust of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's statue in Katwa area of Burdwan.

The police rushed to the spot soon after they received information about the incident. The statue was later cleaned up.

A Trinamool Congress leader has alleged that BJP workers were behind the vandalism.

TMC leader Rabindranath Chatterjee said that it was a conspiracy by the BJP workers. Chatterjee said that the BJP is trying to disrupt peace by vandalising the statues of national leaders.

An FIR has been registered in connection with the incident.

On March 5, statue of Lenin was toppled by a mob in Tripura.

On March 7, Periyar's statue was defaced in Tirupattur, Vellore after BJP leader H Raja said that Periyar would have a similar fate as Lenin.
