Two Killed in Motorcycle-Truck Collision

Two persons were killed when the motorcycle they were traveling by suffered a head-on collision with a truck at Teen Hath Naka junction in Maharashtra's Thane city, police said on Friday, 24 January. The incident took place at around 9.45 pm on Thursday, 23 January, when a Gujarat-registered truck collided with the motorcycle, killing two Mulund residents.

DMK Moves SC on Plea Seeking Disqualification on 11 AIADMK MLAs

The DMK moved the Supreme Court on Friday seeking urgent hearing of its plea for disqualification of 11 AIADMK MLAs, who voted against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami in a confidence motion in 2017.

Facebook Names Avinash Pant as India Marketing Head

Facebook on Friday, 24 January said it has appointed Avinash Pant as Marketing Director for its India operations.

The role of marketing director will be a new one at Facebook India, with the mandate to drive the company's consumer marketing efforts across the family of apps, including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, the company said in a statement.

Pant comes with 22 years of experience working with consumer brands such as Nike, Coca-Cola, The Walt Disney Company, and most recently, Red Bull, it added.

ED Issues Summon to Air Asia Senior Execs

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued fresh summons to senior executives of Air Asia airlines, including CEO Tony Fernandes, for questioning next month in connection with a money laundering case, officials said on Friday, 24 January.

As per sources, the central agency has asked Fernandes to appear before the investigating officer of the case here on 5 February, his deputy and former Deputy Group CEO of Malaysia-based Air Asia Berhad Bo Lingam on 3 February and R Venkataramanan, Director Air Asia India Ltd, Bengaluru, on 10 February.

BJP MLA Enters Rajasthan Assembly With Basket Full of Locusts, Asks for Compensation to Farmers

In a symbolic protest, a BJP MLA in Rajasthan entered the Vidhan Sabha carrying a basket full of locusts on Friday, 24 January and asked the state government to expedite the distribution of compensation to farmers who have suffered losses in the insect attack.

Eleven districts of the state are facing the worst locust attack after 26 years. Control measures have been undertaken on 3.70 lakh hectares of affected land, officials said.

"The seriousness of the government is visible in addressing the issue of locust attack in western Rajasthan that has damaged crops on lakhs of hectares of land," Nokha (Bikaner) MLA Bihari Lal told reporters in the assembly building.
