PH Navy rescues 6 Filipino fishermen in Philippine RiseBy Inquirer

MANILA, Philippines—Six fishermen were rescued by Philippine Navy sailors in the Philippine Rise on Tuesday (Sept. 14).

The BRP Andres Bonifacio (PS-17) received a distress call from fishing vessel FV MR KUPIDO, which had been drifting some 30 nautical miles southeast of Philippine Rise, the Naval Forces Southern Luzon (Navforsol) said in a statement.

The Navy ship headed to the location and helped the crew of the distressed vessel, which was already “half sunk” when help arrived.

Navforsol cited the fishing crew as saying the vessel ran into big waves that damaged the fishing boat’s outrigger and bore a hole on its freeboard.

It was learned that the fishermen have been trying to keep the vessel afloat for two days before they were rescued.

The crew of BRP Andres Bonifacio provided clothes, food, medical assistance, and temporary shelter to the fishermen while their vessel was being repaired, Navforsol said.
