Michael B. Jordan uses fashion to ‘start a conversation’By CoverMedia
Michael B.
Jordan chooses his red carpet outfits to “start a conversation”.The Black Panther star is an ambassador for fashion brand Coach, and a regular attendee at glitzy awards ceremonies like the Met Gala and the Screen Actors Guild Awards, where he caused mass debate over his choice of a vibrant floral harness designed by the artistic director of Louis Vuitton menswear, Virgil Abloh. In an interview with WWD at Coach’s Fall 2019 show in New York (12Feb19) he discussed his bold style choice and shared that when it comes to fashion he’s not “playing it safe” anymore.“For me, this is the first year that I’m making more bold fashion choices and taking more risks,” he told the publication.
“We want to start a conversation and that comes with the success the last couple of years.“I think I’ve always dressed well on carpets, but now, I’m not really playing it safe and I like starting a conversation: who did (like it), who didn’t,” he smiled.
“So I’m starting to get more into fashion and not take myself so seriously on the carpet.
It’s a growing process.”Last September, the 32-year-old actor and producer became the first global face of Coach menswear, ready-to-wear, accessories and fragrance.
And since then he’s been working with the brand’s executive creative director, Stuart Vevers, on a capsule collection and a fragrance.“I’m having a lot of fun, being able to help design my capsule and being able to be involved in that process and pull inspiration from things that I like and what I want to see in fashion,” he told WWD.
“It’s been great, working on a fragrance and the scents and smells and all the things I didn’t know went into actually creating a fragrance.“So I’m getting an inside peek at fashion and fragrance in a short amount of time.”
