Bangladesh, Aug. 16 -- St. Joseph Higher Secondary School is a Catholic higher secondary school in Dhaka. It is a boys' institution offering education from third grade to twelfth grade.

The institution started its journey in 1954 as St. Joseph English Medium School in 16 Monir Hossain Lane, Narinda by the Congregation of Holy Cross missionaries. The current campus is at 97, Asad Avenue, Mohammedpur, Dhaka.

This institution is one of the premier institutions of Bangladesh, has accumulated an enviable fame in terms of outstanding performance of the students. Each class, from class-III to class-X, of this institution has three sections of which one is an English Medium section. Class-XI and class-XII have six sections each; 4 science sections including an English Medium section, 1 Business Studies section and 1 Humanities section.

Brother Robi Theodore Purification, CSC, is working as the principal of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School. Recently, he was interviewed by The Financial Express, where he discussed overall sides of the institution.

Question (Q): What are the mission and goals of your institution?

Answer (A): The students of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School receive an excellent education in the Holy Cross tradition. The main purpose and goals of our institution is "Advancing in Wisdom and Virtue".

The prime goals of our institution are to impart quality education to the students and to get them possessed with the best of human qualities.

Q: As a leader of this institution, discuss about the matter that gets most priority from you for the students.

A: We think examination is only a part of education for a student. We don't keep our focus on examination only. We prioritise to find out the latent talent of every student and to provide necessary facilities to flourish it.

Q: How can the students get the opportunity to flourish their latent talents?

A: There are 13 clubs on many areas in our institution. Like business club, debate club, science club. There are a lot of publications which were published by the students. They can get the opportunity to flourish their latent talents through working at the clubs and publications. They also enjoyed many types of sports facilities in this institution.

Q: What are the other measures you ensure for overall development of student?

A: Our institution also makes the students aware of their rights and responsibilities. It helps them develop their leadership qualities.

We also promote their sense of morality and social values aiming to create a complete man.

Q: Please tell about the condition of infrastructure facilities to ensure proper education for classes?

A: As an institution locatedin a densely-populated city, we have a limited campus area. Nevertheless,we have ensured proper infrastructure facilities for the students as we take limited number of students.

Considering the increasing demand for admission in this institution, we try to admit the highest number of students as much as possible.

Q: What are the special facilities for poor students in your institution?

A: Although tuition fees in this institution are comparatively lower, we provide scholarships and assistance for poor students. We have a schooling programme for rootless children with the assistance of our former students.

Q: Do you have any plan to introduce university-level education in this institution?

A: We don't have a plan for university-level education. Our goal is to enrich the facilities for the students of existing curriculum.

Q: Are you satisfied about the current position of your institution?

A: As a teacher, there is no scope to be satisfied. We only ensure the facilities for students to develop themselves. They achieve success as a result of their own merit and hardworking. The students will get the credit for our position.

Q: Please share youradvice for the teachers for becoming a good teacher.

A: Firstly, a teacher should ensure justice for every student without having any biasness. Secondly, I will request the teachers to keep focus on less meritorious students as the brilliants can understand the lessons easily. Thirdly, a teacher must not keep any personal interest in the classroom so that the students can realise you are working for their development and welfare only.
