Three members of a family, including a minor, drowned in the backwaters of the Jadhavwadi dam near Talegaon during a picnic on Sunday afternoon, police said.

The complaint has been filed by Sangeeta Gaikwad (43) a resident of Khed. Sangeeta and her husband Dadasaheb Gaikwad had gone for an outing with their relatives who had come from Mumbai. According to Gaikwad’s statement, the family decided to take a stroll when one of the family members slipped and fell into the water, near the National Disaster Response Force (NRDF) camp.

The group made a human chain in order to save him and this led to another five members of the family falling into the water.

The family’s cry for help was heard by the NDRF officials, who then, got the members out of the water. The victims were rushed to the hospital, however, three of them were proclaimed dead on arrival.

The victims have been identified as Pritesh Raghunath Agale (32), Prasheel Adhav (8) and Anil Kolse (52), all residents of Ghatkopar in Mumbai. A case of accidental death has been lodged at Talegaon police station. The post-mortem was conducted at a Talegaon hospital.
