Eddie Nketiah is in line to make his Arsenal comeback this weekend after impressing head coach Mikel Arteta in training.

The striker was sent out on loan to Leeds in the summer but he was recalled this month due to a lack of game time.

The original plan had been for the England Under-21 international to go back out on loan and a number of Championship clubs expressed an interest.

Bristol City, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday were all keen on Nketiah, however Arsenal decided this week that he would be staying put.

Nketiah is now in contention to go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s match at home to Sheffield United, with a role on the bench most likely.

The 20-year-old would have normally had to wait his turn for an opportunity to shine, but the fact Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is suspended has boosted his chances.

“I hope we can play better and even win the games [without Aubameyang],” said Arteta. “Players have to step up, take responsibility.”
