5 J&K Poll Officers Suspended for Dereliction of Duty

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Wednesday suspended five election officers in Kishtwar district for dereliction of duties, officials said.

Delhi Court Grants CBI, ED Time Till 4 May to Complete Probe in Aircel-Maxis Case

A Delhi court on Thursday granted time till 4 May to the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate to complete the probe in the Aircel-Maxis case against Congress leader P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram.

The ED told the court that the letters rogatory (formal request from a court to a foreign court for some judicial assistance) have been sent to four countries and that their response is awaited.

Rajasthan Govt Will Take Strict Action Against Food Adulteration: CM Gehlot

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on Thursday that the state’s Budget is based on seven resolutions, with ‘Nirogi Rajasthan’, prosperous farmers, welfare of women and capable labourers being the top priorities.

“Rajasthan government will take strict action against food adulteration. Labs will be established in each district, fast-track courts will be set up,” Gehlot added.

Vodafone Idea Pays Rs 1,000 Cr to Telecom Dept Towards Dues: Source

Vodafone Idea on Thursday paid Rs 1,000 crore more to the Department of Telecommunications towards its statutory dues, a senior official said.

The company had paid Rs 2,500 crore to the government towards adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues on Monday. In all, it owes Rs 53,000 crore to the telecom department.

The DoT source said that notices will also be sent to Tata Teleservices for recovery of full dues in a day or two. The company had paid Rs 2,197 crore to the government on Monday, while DoT's calculations peg the outstanding amount at over Rs 14,000 crore.

9 Killed in Suspected Far-Right Attack in Germany

A 43-year-old German man shot and killed nine people at several locations in a Frankfurt suburb overnight in attacks that appear to have been motivated by far-right beliefs, officials said on Thursday.

The gunman first attacked a hookah bar in central Hanau at about 10 pm on Wednesday, killing several people before heading about 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) west and opening fire again, claiming more victims.

Several Cars Gutted as Fire Breaks out at Four-Wheeler Workshop in Kolkata

A major fire broke out at a car workshop of a leading four-wheeler manufacturer in east Kolkata's Anandapur area on Thursday, officials said.

Ten fire tenders are at the spot to douse the blaze, which has gutted several cars that were inside the workshop, they said.

The blaze is under control and the cooling-off process has started, fire and emergency services minister Sujit Bose said.

Proscribed outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) on Thursday triggered an IED blast at a coke kiln in Meghalaya's West Khasi Hills district partially damaging the facility, police said.

However, no casualties were reported in the incident, a police officer said.
