Samarjit appointed as president of Thang Ta Federation of IndiaBy HTS

Manipur, June 16 -- "International Thang-Ta University will be established in Manipur within 3 years"

Chairman and managing director of Salai Holdings Private Limited, Narengbam Samarjit has been appointed as president of Thang Ta Federation of India today at Dharamnagar, Tripura.

The charge was given to Samarjit during the closing ceremony of 8th Thang-Ta Federation Cup-2019 for sub-junior, junior and senior for both male and female category held at Swami Vivekananda Sardha Satabarishki Bhawan, Dharamnagar, and Tripura. President of World Thang-Ta Federation, Huidrom Premkumar also felicitated the newly appointed president at the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Samarjit said he will promote the traditional form of Manipuri martial art form not only in national level but to international level. He said an international university of Thang-Ta will be established in Manipur within three years in order to the art.

He said Manipur was guarded with the traditional form of martial art when it was once a kingdom. It is duty of the people of the Manipur to promote such a form of martial art and to protect it, the people should take initiatives to convert the art form by including it into sports, he added.

The federation cup was started from June 13.

President of World Thang-Ta federation, Huidrom Premkumkar, advisor of All Tripura Thang-Ta Association, O. Deben and member of the association Bijuli Singha also attended the closing ceremony.

The federation cup was taken part by 92 players from Manipur and many players from 20 different states across the country. In the cup, a total of 382 players including males and females took part and out of the total, players from Huyel Lanlong Thang-Ta Association achieved 90 Gold, 17 Silver and 13 Bronze medals making a total of 120 medals.

In the federation, Manipur team was given the team championship.

Among the players, M. Tulajit Khuman of Manipur and Muskan of Delhi was given best fighter in male and female category respectively.
