Gabriel Jesus plans to improve his versatility in an attempt to force his way into the Manchester City team.

Jesus has started seven games this season but has largely had to be content to play second fiddle to Sergio Aguero.

The Brazilian started on the wing in the Carabao Cup win over Southampton, and says he is happy to do so to stay in the side.

“I think it is very important you can play more than one position,” Jesus said.

“I like to play like a winger. I don’t have a preference.

“The competition (for places) is very high. I started on the wing in Brazil at my old club (Palmeiras) before I got to play as a striker. Since the Copa America I’ve played on the right for Brazil.”

Jesus was shifted to the right wing by Brazil manager Tite during the Copa America, with Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino preferred up front.

Competition is strong in the front three at Manchester City, with Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva duelling for the right wing position, and Aguero first-choice up front.

The 22-year-old believes he can learn from the Argentine to improve his game and press Pep Guardiola for further opportunities.

“It is difficult to describe Sergio,” Jesus added. “Every game he shows us why he is the top scorer. I have to learn from him because he is a legend.

“Every game he scores. I want to score every game but I think it is different, me and Sergio.

“I am 22 years old, I have to improve my football, practice my finishing so I have to do it and I have to learn from Sergio.”
