Goals from Ramandeep Singh and Lalit Upadhyay helped India beat Malaysia in the final of Asia Cup hockey in Dhaka on Sunday. The Indian men’s hockey team clinched their 3rd Asia Cup title and first since 2007 today. This was Malaysia’s first final at the Asia Cup. Earlier in the Super 4 stage, India had produced a brilliant performance to beat Malaysia 6-2. On Saturday, India continued their unbeaten run in the tournament as they registered a convincing 4-0 win over arch-rivals Pakistan in a Super 4 encounter to book their place in the final. The sixth ranked India, who just needed a draw to seal a place in the summit clash, produced a superlative performance and continued their domination over Pakistan. It was India’s fourth win over Pakistan this year, having beaten them twice in the Hockey World League Semi-finals in London and once in the pool stages here.

Meanwhile, second-placed Malaysia took their points tally to four after playing out a 1-1 draw against South Korea, who collected three points in total.

Pakistan and South Korea will lock horns in the bronze medal match today.
