The All-India Selection Committee has decided to send batsman Shubman Gill and all-rounder Vijay Shankar to replace suspended Indian cricketers KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya for the ODI series against Australia and the tour of New Zealand.According to BCCI, Vijay Shankar will join the Indian squad ahead of the second ODI against Australia in Adelaide. He will also be a part of the ODI as well as the T20I squad for the tour of New Zealand. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has been selected for the ODI and T20I series for the tour of New Zealand.
Vijay Shankar and Shubman Gill have been picked after Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul were ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Australia. The duo have been asked to return home after they were suspended pending an inquiry into their sexist comments on Koffee With Karan television chat show.
This is the first time that Under-19 star batsman Shubman Gill has been selected for India’s limited over side. Shubman has had a brilliant first-class season, tallying more than 1000 runs in 9 matches. In the Ranji trophy also Shubman had an envious average of 98.75, where he scored 790 runs in 10 innings.
Meanwhile, Vijay Shankar was part of the Indian squad during the Nidahas Trophy in SrI Lanka last year. Recently, the 27-year-old all-rounder had an excellent tour to New Zealand with the India A side. The middle-order batsman from Tamil Nadu, who also bowls medium pace, has played five T20I for India till now.
