MANILA, Philippines — A huge part of the country would still see cloudy skies and occasional rains due to the northeast monsoon and the tail end of a frontal system, state meteorologists said on Monday afternoon.
Updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed that the country’s landmass is still surrounded by cloud bands, from the combined effects of the weather systems and the low pressure area (LPA) over the western part of Mindanao.
The LPA was last spotted 85 kilometers south southeast of Zamboanga City. Although it is still not expected to develop into a tropical depression, the LPA is still expected to bring rains in the area.
For Tuesday, Southern Luzon and Bicol Region would see scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the tail end of a frontal system, while northern Luzon would still experience the effects of the northeast monsoon or amihan.
Temperatures are expected to decrease again as amihan gains strength again, as Metro Manila would feel something between 23 to 29 degrees Celsius, Tuguegarao with 20 to 26 degrees, Baguio with 14 to 23 degrees, Tagaytay with 19 to 26 degrees, and Legazpi having 24 to 28 degrees.
Rains are also expected over Visayas and Mindanao, bringing colder weather in Iloilo and Tacloban which may have temperatures of 24 to 28 degrees Celsius, 25 to 28 degrees for Cebu City, 24 to 29 degrees for Cagayan de Oro and Davao City, and 24 to 30 degrees for Zamboanga.
Pagasa warned that continuous rains in low-lying areas may cause flash floods, and landslides for those near mountain slopes.
Gale warnings are currently raised over the entire seaboards of northern Luzon, the whole eastern coastline of Luzon and Visayas plus the northern waters of Caraga; the western waters of Ilocos Region and Central Luzon, of Palawan and Kalayaan Islands; and the inland waters of Laguna Lake.
