Rains abating after a downpourBy HTS

India, Sept. 23 -- A day after Madhya Pradesh witnessed heavy to very heavy rains in some parts, in most of the places only light rains were recorded on Friday.

With the continuous good showers over the state, the rain deficiency of West Madhya Pradesh has come down to normal and stands at 18 per cent, whereas East Madhya Pradesh is still rain deficient by 24 per cent. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Thursday, Shahjapur witnessed heavy rain to the tune of 139 mm, Khandwa 68 mm, Jabalpur 48 mm, Bhopal 42 mm, Tikamgarh 51 mm of rain.

In the same span of time, Pachmarhi recorded 29 mm of rain, Sagar 27 mm, Khajuraho 23 mm and Khargone 17 mm of rain. Meanwhile, Indore, Dhar, Hoshangabad, and Seoni also observed light Monsoon showers. The hefty showers can be attributed to the well-marked low-pressure area which was over the northern parts of the State. With the persistent weather systems, we expect moderate to heavy showers to continue over many parts of West MP for at least next 24 hours. However, the rain intensity will reduce over the eastern parts.

Places like Ratlam, Ujjain, Indore, Dhar, Shahjapur, Guna, Shivpuri, and Gwalior are expected to witness moderate to heavy showers. Meanwhile, the rain intensity over Jabalpur, Pachmarhi, Seoni, Damoh, and Umaria will now reduce significantly. After 24 hours, it is anticipated that the well-marked Low Pressure will move towards West UP and will weaken gradually leading to decrease in the rain intensity over MP as well.
