Battle for Chhattisgarh: Counting of Assembly poll votes beginsBy uniindia
Raipur, Dec 11 (UNI) Counting of votes cast across 90 Assembly constituencies of Chhattisgarh commenced on Tuesday morning at all district headquarters amid heavy security bandobast.
According to information gathered from Office of Chief Electoral Officer, counting has begun in all
counting centres that have been set up in all 27 district headquarters.
Fate of total 1,269 candidates is likely to be decided by afternoon.
Initially, the counting of postal ballots was held for each Assembly constituency.
After next half-an-hour, the counting will begin on votes registered in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
Counting of votes registered in EVMs would not be completed till last round as long as the counting of
postal ballots is not completed.
Three-layer security arrangements have been made at counting centres
and nobody will be allowed to enter without identity card.
About 5,184 counting staff and 1500 micro observers have been deployed for counting in all 90 assembly seats.

Counting in each round will be held on 14 tables in all assembly constituencies.
Highest 30 rounds of
counting will be held for Kawardha Assembly constituency whereas lowest 11 rounds of counting will be
held for Manendragarh Assembly constituency.

Journalists have been allowed to use landline phones installed at media centres, set up at counting venues.
Wi-Fi has also been prohibited within periphery of 100 metres from counting centres.
Polling for 90 assembly seats of state was held in two phases.
First phase of polling for 18 seats was
held on November 12 and second phase for 72 seats on November 20.
The first phase of election on 18
seats registered 76.39 per cent polling while 76.34 per cent polling was recorded in second and last phase of elections on 72 seats.

An average 76.35 per cent voter turnout was recorded in both the phases of election.
Although the main election battle in the state is between ruling BJP and opposition Congress, for the first time, newly-formed Janta Congress-BSP alliance has tried to make it as triangular contest.
