The aggrieved parents of 32-year-old Anshu Bala alleged that her murder by their son-in-law was a planned one, a theory which the police agreed with. Her husband, Sumit Kumar, fled their flat in Gyan Khand-4 after murdering his wife and three minor children on late Saturday night . Sumit made a revelation about the murders on a video he sent to his brother on Sunday evening, in which he also claimed he would kill himself.

“My wife and I had been living with my daughter since the twins were born four years ago. He used to behave badly with daughter and the children, and he would beat them up as well. We had been out of station to attend a wedding , which was when he committed the murders. We suspect that his family was also involved in the murders,” Bala’s father said.

Sumit, a software engineer, left his job in Bengaluru last December, and stayed there with his brother for two months. He came to Ghaziabad in February, which was when his wife’s family found out he was unemployed. Bala’s father, BK Singh, is a retired army serviceman and is currently working as a security supervisor in Indirapuram.

The police agreed that the murder was planned.

“The suspect brought sleeping pills from the medical shop on Saturday evening and gave it to his wife and children mixed in soft drink. He then attacked them with some sharp object, like a knife. This was done when Bala’s parents were not at home. Then he walked out of his house around 3am on Sunday and sent a video that he would kill himself,” Shlok Kumar, superintendent of police (city), said.

“This was all done under a planned manner. We will be calling Sumit’s family for questioning. He is still untraceable and his mobile phone is switched off. We have roped in teams to trace him at the earliest,” he added

The family also demanded that Sumit’s family members, including his brother, Amit, be questioned.

“Amit told us that he was travelling when he got a call from Sumit. Sumit told Amit that he was sending him a video on WhatsApp. After watching the video, Amit posted it on his family’s group. Sumit’s sister, Guddi told me about the video on Sunday evening. I had called Anshu a short while before Guddi called me, but she did not pick up,” Manish Kumar, Bala’s brother, said.

“Guddi’s husband called me up and asked me to take three or four men to Anshu’s house. Everything seemed normal when I met them last on April 8. It was the twins’ birthday and we celebrated together. We all are puzzled how Sumit committed four murders and fled with such ease,” he added.

Sumit and Bala got married in 2011 and had three children. Bala worked at a playschool near her house, which the twins also attended.

Manish said his sister’s family was suffering from financial difficulties.

“She was planning to get the twins admitted in a school in July. Sumit was unemployed, and had changed three jobs in one-and-half years,” he said.
