IMPHAL, Aug. 14 -- "Achieving political freedom from colonial rule cannot be considered as the only form of freedom as enjoying freedom of speech and expression should also be there. But considering the prevailing scenario, freedom in the country seems to be fading away."

President of state Congress Party, Gaikhangam stated during a press conference held today at his office chamber located at Manipur PCC complex, B.T. Road, Imphal.

He further said that with the observation of Patriot's Day, the people should remember that political freedom is not the only freedom. By suppressing freedom of speech and expression, the freedom of the country is fading away, he said. The government needs to listen to the voice of people, it needs to explain the suppressing the voice of people.

Responding to media, Gaikhangam said Congress party will not tolerate any form of crime in the State. The government should conduct speedy investigation to find out the culprits behind the death of Babysana immediately, he stated. Implementing article 370 and 35(A) in Jammu and Kashmir is posing a threat to the small community states in the country. Jammu and Kashmir was once a princely state like Manipur, and similar acts might also be implemented in other small community states, he added.

Congress Leader Party (CLP) leader, Okram Ibobi said as the Patriot's day is observed all over the State, it is also being observed in Myanmar, Assam, Tripura and others. The day is being observed in honor of the patriots who sacrificed for the motherland against colonial rule.
