Panthers Reportedly Interviewed Ex-Packers Coach Mike McCarthy Before Sunday's GameBy 12Up

Mike McCarthy has been pining to get back in the NFL after the Green Bay Packers cut ties with the former Super Bowl-winning coach. His sabbatical from the game might end after just one season, as the Panthers have legit interest.

Carolina interviewed McCarthy for their vacant head coaching job after their loss to the Colts.

Carolina has struggled ever since they parted ways with long-time head coach Ron Rivera.

The Panthers stand at just a disappointing 5-10 this season without the injured Cam Newton, as Kyle Allen's mojo ran out a few months ago and rookie Will Grier is now under center taking the snaps. McCarthy, a former offensive coordinator who went 135-85-2 with Green Bay, should be able to whip Christian McCaffrey and that unit into shape at the very least.

McCarthy was a dinosaur by the the time the Packers cut ties with him, and his old-school approach to offensive football may not be the best for a quarterback like Newton.

If he modernizes how he manages the game and learned from his mistakes, McCarthy has a track record of success and the capability to lead men. He's a better hire than a no-name 35-year-old offensive coordinator who just so happens to look like Sean McVay, that's for sure.
