Trump impeachment: President breaks own record for most tweets in one dayBy The Independent

Donald Trump has broken his own record for the most tweets in one day since he became US president.

Amid rising tension over his impeachment trial in the Senate, the social media addict issued a total of 142 posts on Wednesday.

It smashed his previous record of 123 on 12 December last year, when the House Judiciary Committee began debating the charges against the president.

However it fell short of the 161 he managed on the day he live-tweeted an episode of his Celebrity Apprentice television programme in January 2015.

His latest tweet marathon, which lasted 18 hours and 18 minutes, began while the president was attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

More than 87 per cent of the posts were retweets of other Twitter users including his son Donald Jr, the White House and his official 2020 election campaign account.

One of them included a mocked up image posted by White House social media director Dan Scavino, showing Trump walking away from a burning “Deep State.”

His 18 original tweets included the two-word eruption ”NO PRESSURE!”, sent while House Democrat Adam Schiff laid out the impeachment case against him.

Mr Trump also called Democratic presidential hopeful Tom Steyer a “major loser” and declared that any migrants reaching the US-Mexico border would be sent back.

After boasting that he was “making great progress” at Davos, he later told his 71 million followers he was returning to Washington after a “very successful (for USA) trip”.

His final message before retiring to bed was a retweet of Republican congressman Doug Collins, who had launched another attack on Mr Schiff.
