Following a rough showing form franchise quarterback Dwayne Haskins in his NFL debut, it makes sense that Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden would want to protect him from facing a ferocious New England Patriots defense. However, this is the complete wrong way to go about this.

Gruden, who supposedly did not want to draft Haskins and had the selection forced upon him by dysfunctional owner Dan Snyder, will start veteran backup Colt McCoy against New England.

After a few years in Cleveland, McCoy bounced around the league as a backup, playing the last five seasons in Washington. McCoy completed 63% of his passes with three touchdowns and three picks in two starts last season.

Rather than go with Case Keenum, who returned to practice after being spotted in a walking boot, Gruden, who is basically a dead man walking, decided to start the average backup over either the young rookie or the producing veteran.

The Redskins will certainly fire Gruden and replace him with a young, offensive-minded coach to help nurture Haskins, and it looks like Gruden is going out in the most belligerent way possible as he tries to nuke Haskins' chance at success in this league.
