Some absolutely tragic news out of Atlanta on Thursday that will affect the entire NBA family.

Cliff Dixon, who is referred to by Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant as his "adopted brother," was shot and killed in Atlanta, GA while out celebrating his birthday, according to reports.

Dixon was reportedly shot outside of a strip mall roughly 15 miles outside of Atlanta in the early hours of Thursday morning. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

To make things somehow murkier, as of their latest reports, police are struggling to identify a suspect in the shooting. The gunman is believed to have fled on foot, and police K-9 units failed to track down his scent. Security cameras at the scene were also reportedly not functioning.

Dixon was celebrating his 32nd birthday at the S.L. Lounge Night Club. He advertised the event on his Instagram, which remains active at this time.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dixon's family, as well as Durant, who had been close with Dixon since the pair were high school teammates together in Maryland.
