New Delhi, Aug 18 (UNI) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday evening visited AIIMS, to enquire about the health of former finance minister Arun Jaitley.
The condition of former finance minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley is stated to be stable, but critical, sources said.
The senior BJP leader is undergoing treatment at AIIMS, under a team of multidisciplinary doctors, comprising nephrologists, cardiologists and endocrinologists.
In view of Mr Jailey's health condition and top political leaders' visit, the security in and around the AIIMS has been tightened, sources said.
Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur and Cricketer-turned-politician and MP Gautam Gambhir also visited AIIMS this evening, to enquire about the health of the former finance minister.
Earlier in the day, many political leaders including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief
Minister Manish Sisodia and Union Ministers--Smriti Irani and Ram Vilas Paswan and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Ashwini Choubey visited AIIMS, to enquire about ex-union minister's health.
RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat was also one of the visitors.
Mr Kejriwal, in a tweet said, 'Visited Sh Arun Jaitley ji. I pray to God for his good health and fast recovery.'
In a tweet, Mr Paswan said, "Today at 1400 hours, I went to AIIMS to enquire about Jaitley ji's health.
I also met the doctors who are looking after him."
Leaders of various political parties who included Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Congress leaders Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Jyotiraditya Scindia also made a beeline to AIIMS.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah too paid a visit to the hospital.
Mr Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS on August 9, after he complained of breathlessness, weakness and restlessness.
President Ram Nath Kovind, the Union Home Minister, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath too made a presence at the premier institute on Friday.
Dr Vardhan and Minister of State for Health Ashwini Choubey were present during the visit of the President.
Mr Jaitley had undergone a renal transplant last year and Railways Minister Piyush Goyal took charge of Finance for sometime during his absence.
Due to his ill health, Mr Jaitley could not present the last budget of the Modi government's
first term in February and the task was passed on to Mr Goyal.
