Examination time can be stressful for some students. Even after putting in hours for preparation, there are students who do not feel that they are exam-ready. Educationists share tips which are essential to fare well in the exams, while also stressing that learning concepts well is far more important than acquiring marks.

According to Prakash Pawar, vice-principal, (Arts), Fergusson College, a student should look at examinations not as an end point but should work at it continuously. “We follow a semester pattern with two exams. There are assignments in between the exams and so the student is constantly learning. While preparing for the exams, students should select important topics they feel needs more work and must concentrate on them,” he said.

Pawar said that students from all streams put in a lot of effort as they are preparing for competitive exams other than regular studies. “They are all competing for global opportunities. As a mentor, we give moral support too,” he said.

According to Radhika Tharoor, professor in Mathematics and Associate Dean Research at Dr D Y Patil Institute of Technology, Pimpri and Member Board of studies and faculty at SPPU, “To achieve good results there is only one mantra - daily study, weekly revision and final touch. Decide your target first, plan properly (take help of peer group , if required ), stick to schedule, maintain self discipline, make a study group of 3 to 4 friends who can teach other, prepare smart study materials by analysing previous question papers, use mind maps or algorithmic procedure and rather than just reading. Practice by writing or doing numerical yourself . Engineering is a professional course . You will be a true winner only if your fundamentals are strong , concepts are clear, mathematical thinking and engineering knowledge can be applied to every situation.”

Poonam Ponde, associate professor of Computer Science, Nowzosjee Wadia Institute of Technology, said, “It is important to manage your time well. Meditate for a few minutes to focus the mind. One must also eat and sleep on time and keep oneself hydrated. Regular breaks are needed to relax. ”

Professors say that it is important for the students to refer to question papers of previous years. Also, focus on learning the concepts well without bothering about the marks, they said.

“In case you are feeling stressed, talk to your parents, siblings or friends,” Ponde said.
