Organizer explains the ‘exclusion’ of two actors from 2018 Walk of FameBy Manila Bulletin

Federico Moreno, the son of the late German Moreno, has revealed the reason actors James Reid and Joshua Garcia were excluded from Walk of Fame 2018 inductees.

Note that the two, along with their respective love team partners, Julia Barretto and Nadine Lustre, were announced to be part of the list early November.

In an interview during the induction ceremony held Dec. 10 at Eastwood City Central Plaza, Federico explained that Joshua and James were excluded due to scheduling conflicts.

“Well, in fact, for this year’s inductees, we invited their love teams. Unfortunately, they can’t make it,” he said. “The board is very very strict. Presence is really required.”

James is currently in Australia to attend the needs of his father, which the organizers “fully understand.”

“(For Joshua), he wasn’t able to provide a schedule also,” he added.

Federico made clear Joshua and James could still have their respective Walk of Fame stars, hopefully by next year.

“But what we do naman, once you are nominated, we try to nominate naman din again next year,” he said.

He also pointed out that a small number of celebrities were inducted this year, to make it “more intimate.”

Among latest recipients of Walk of Fame stars were Julia, Pia Wurtzbach, Derek Ramsay, Ken Chan, and Vhong Navarro.

Joining them were award-winning Direk Chito Roño, the man behind the iconic films “Dekada 70,” Marichu Vera Perez-Maceda, movie pioneer and matriarch of the legendary Sampaguita pictures fondly known by many in the showbiz circle as Manay Ichu.

Vera Perez-Maceda also received a posthumous award in behalf of his father, the late Dr. Jose Roxas Perez. Known by many as a certified star maker, he built the stars of movie icons Gloria Romero, Eddie Garcia and the late Romeo Vasquez.

The lone star from public affairs category was awarded to BBC’s first Filipino news anchor, broadcast journalist Rico Hizon.

A brainchild of the late ‘Master Showman’ Walk of Fame Philippines started in 2005 with the main goal of honoring those who did not only excel in their profession and field of work, but also helped inspire generations of actors, directors, TV and radio personalities, musicians, athletes, and journalists.

Since its creation, 343 celebrities and personalities have been awarded with their own stars at the Walk of Fame, which has also become an iconic attraction unique only to Eastwood City and remains as one of the most coveted and prestigious recognitions in the entertainment industry.

“It will be a big disservice not to continue my father’s legacy project. It has always been his dream to honor the stars that have made a significant contribution to the entertainment industry,” said Federico, president of the German Moreno Foundation and Walk of Fame Philippines.

Aside from honoring the best and the brightest in Philippine entertainment, the Walk of Fame was founded to support Mowelfund (Movie Workers Welfare Foundation), an organization that provides for the welfare of the workers in the film industry.
