After making dynamic debuts in ODIs and T20Is, batsman Suryakumar Yadav is set to fly to England for the upcoming five-Test series against the hosts. The Mumbai cricketer received his maiden Test call-up after the likes of Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar were ruled out due to injuries.

Suryakumar has been in a great nick lately. He scored a total of 124 runs in 3 ODIs against Sri Lanka, including a half-century in his debut game. He carried his form in the T20Is as well, scoring a half-century off 33 balls in the series opener on Sunday in Colombo.

Be it the Indian Premier League or representing India in the blue jersey, Suryakumar has won numerous accolades in the white-ball format. As he gears up to play the longest format of the game for his country for the first time, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt says if the 30-year-old middle-order batsman gets a game and scores in England, he will prove to the world that he’s a top-class player.

“Suryakumar Yadav has a huge opportunity to make a mark in England if he gets an opportunity to play. People have started developing a view of him as being a classy player. If he scores in England as well, he will prove that he is a top-class player because England is a tough place to score runs,” said Butt in his latest YouTube video.

“He has debuted at 30. The maturity that he has gained by playing years of domestic cricket is visible in his batting. There are many other talented Indian batsmen who are playing fearless cricket but Suryakumar Yadav is proving to be a lot more mature. Most batsmen are at their peak at the age at which Suryakumar Yadav has made his debut,” he added.

After making his first-class debut in 2010, Suryakumar has scored 5326 runs in just 77 matches, at an average of 44.01. He has 14 hundreds and 26 fifties to his credit.
