Meet the kids who made PM Modi and Bibi's Gandhi Ashram visit a successBy IndiaToday

Kite flying certainly wouldn't have come naturally to the Israeli Prime Minister and his wife who was trying it out for the first time. It's Vrushank Thakkar and Diya who helped the two Prime Ministers and Sara Netanyahu experience this wonderful and colourful sport.

It was yet another personal touch by Prime Minister Modi. Speaking to India Today the eighth grade student Vrushank said that it was a "proud" moment for him to have been chosen for the job.

I'm honoured to have been there. It was a wonderful experience and I think PM Modi is great.

Diya, a tenth standard student spoke of the "inspiration" she draws from Prime Minister Modi. She said, "He has been a motivation not just for me but every young student I know. He has put Gujarat on a different level."

The students who were part of the kite flying event and all the other activities were screened and chosen. There were rehearsals for them a day before to know exactly what has to be done.

They held the rolls of the lines for the kites while the leaders enjoyed holding the line of thread connected to the kite while the kites were soaring in the air.

While asked what the conversation was like between the two Premiers, Vrushank said, "Prime Minister Modi was explaining to the Israeli PM how it is done and also spoke about the significance of kite flying."

"PM Modi told Prime Minister Netanyahu that he had come in the right month. January is the month of kite flying festival," Diya added.

The visit was just a few days after 'Uttarayana', the popular festival of kites in Gujarat.

The two jokingly said that there were other kids in their school who were selected to be there during Premier Abe's visit. A popularity contest of sorts among kids getting their "time in the sun."

There was representation from a school to sing the bhajans and while interacting with Saraswati, one of the students, we were told that they were all there in full force despite having their examinations. "It is exam time but we still found time to practice and then sing in the presence of the two leaders. It was a proud moment for me."

Sandhya, another student said, "When I saw the two leaders here at the Gandhi Ashram, it inspired be to become something big in life."

The kids also sung "Vaishnava Jan To" bhajan which was one of Mahatma Gandhi's favourite prayer songs.

More kids who helped with the event.

At 'Hriday Kunj', Gandhi's home in the ashram, Modi showed them Gandhi's room and the articles he used. Netanyahu and his wife tried their hands at Gandhi's cherished spinning wheel.

The Israeli PM is the third international leader whom Modi is hosting in his home state of Gujarat.

Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe visited Sabarmati Ashram in 2017 and Chinese President Xi Jinping was in Gujarat in 2014.
