TROPICAL depression “Gener” entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday, the Philippine Atmospherics, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.In an 11 a.m. bulletin, weather specialist Ariel Rojas said “Gener” was spotted 870 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes.

It has maximum sustained winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

The tropical depression is moving southwest at 20 kph, Rojas said.

Meanwhile, an Inter-tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is affecting parts of Southern Luzon, MIMAROPA (Mindoro-Marinduque-Romblon-Palawan), Visayas and Mindanao where cloudy skies and scattered rain showers will be felt.

Rojas said the tropical depression does not have a direct effect in most parts of the country.

In the next few hours, the weather agency said, “Gener” is expected to weaken into a low pressure area.
