Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to make a move to bring €80m-rated Gareth Bale back to the club after José Mourinho approved the pursuit of the Real Madrid winger.

The former Spurs man is currently finding life tough in Madrid, with manager Zinedine Zidance having attempted to sell the flying wide man last summer. However, a move failed to materialise with the Madrid board blocking a move to China at the 11th hour.

Don Balon in Spain now claim that the Welshman is keen on a move back to the Lilywhites, and Daniel Levy has held an 'emergency meeting' with Madrid in order to push through a move for the player.

However, the report also states that both clubs are miles off reaching a deal, with Los Blancos demanding €80m for Bale - a price that Spurs currently deem as ridiculously high.

Spurs are currently active in the transfer window and are looking for a striker to replace the injured Harry Kane. However, this report should be taken with a pinch of salt, with Daniel Levy unlikely to pay €80m for just about anyone.

Zidane is also unlikely to sanction a move for the 30-year-old in the middle of an intense season, as Madrid battle to compete on multiple fronts. This goes alongside the fact that Bale's agent revealed that the player won't be going anywhere this January, while a move away next summer is also unlikely.

Despite this, Zidane may be keen to shift the player during the summer window. His side are currently blessed with a number of forward options, including the likes of Rodrygo, Eden Hazard, Vinicius Junior and Isco, so they are unlikely to miss a player who is constantly injured. Marco Asensio will also be an option when he returns from his long-term layoff.

Bale made his return from injury for Madrid during the Copa del Rey on Wednesday evening, and even managed to open the scoring in a 3-1 win away against Unionistas. They will now return to La Liga action on Sunday, when they head to Real Valladolid as they look to keep the pressure on table-toppers Barcelona.
