Delhi Police busts pharma drugs trafficking racket, arrests 4By IndiaToday

Delhi Police today arrested four persons after it busted a pharmaceutical drugs trafficking racket. Officials from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) confirmed that the racket was operational in Delhi and NCR areas.

The NCB following intelligence about the active presence of a drug racket heightened surveillance the NCR areas. The bureau had information that a group operated a drug racket that trafficked pharmaceuticals through parcel and courier.

On March 14, a person approached a private courier service to book a consignment of pharmaceutical drugs in Ghaziabad. Following the information, the police intercepted him. The person identified himself as Praveen Rana.

Upon inspection of the package with Rana, the police found that it contained 5,025 Zolpidem tablets. Rana told the police that the consignment was given to him by a person identified as Parman Bisht. Both Rana and Bisht were apprehended by the police.

Upon interrogation, Bisht told the police that he procured the tablets from two others identified as Krishan Kant Tiwary and Ram Chandra Singh both residents of Bhagwanpur of Roorkee, Uttarakhand. Bisht told the police that both Tiwary and Singh regularly consignments to him.

Following the information, the NCB team activated its sources in Roorkee and more details were gathered about Tiwary and Singh. The NCB team received a tip-off that both Tiwary and Singh were to deliver a consignment of Zolpidem tablets to Ghaziabad by bus on March 16.

While Singh was apprehended from near the bus stand, Tiwary was arrested from his house in Roorkee. Investigations revealed that the Rana worked as a wholesaler of pharmaceutical products at a firm in Ghaziabad. Rana told the police that he has been procuring illegal medicine with the courier agency for a long time.

The four accused told the police that their racket operated through a call centre. They obtained contacts of buyers and sellers from the internet. Police said that the accused were to deliver the consignment to Varanasi and from there it was to be dispatched to a foreign destination.
