'Good Girls' Season 4 Episode 6: Did Beth use sex to distract Rio from finding out about her FBI connection?

By Meaww

In the last episode of ‘Good Girls’, we saw Rio (Manny Montana) tell Beth (Christina Hendricks) that he has people that he answers to and that those people would like to meet her. It was an important moment for Beth because she finally had some useful information to exchange with FBI agents Phoebe (Lauren Lapkus) and Dave (Jonathan Silverman), information that could be used as leverage to get her husband Dean (Matthew Lillard) out of jail and start planning for a new life.

But Beth still has plenty of digging around to do if she wants to really make a clean break from her life of crime. The big question the FBI and, of course, fans have is who is Rio’s boss? To find out the answer to this crucial question, Beth is once again wired up by FBI agents.

Beth then sets off tentatively to meet Rio's boss. One thing is for sure, whatever Beth has pictured Rio’s boss to be, his grandma isn’t one of them. But that’s exactly what happens.

At a family barbecue with children running around and family members chomping down on homemade food, Beth is introduced to the boss — Rio's grandmother (Marlene Forte). It's an introduction that is more reminiscent of when a boy brings home a girl to introduce to his family. As his family starts to tease Rio, who would have thought Rio could be teased, he starts to affectionately run his hand up and down Beth’s back. But knowing Rio, this is a calculated caress, to see if Beth is wired. Beth realizes what Rio is trying to do and excuses herself to go to the bathroom.

She then desperately tries to figure out where to hide her wire. Beth discovers a place to hide her wire just in the nick of time when Rio enters the room. He asks her what she's doing and she says "I don't know." He says "I don't know or don't want to say?" Beth says she's just curious because she thought what they had between them was business, so why is his family involved? To this Rio says his family and business are one and the same thing.

She then asks Rio why does his family even care about her, to which he replies that they care if she is good enough for business. Beth then gets the feeling that Rio knows what she has been up to and tries to almost forcefully get him to have sex with her in an attempt to distract him. But Rio makes it clear that he is the partner taking control and calling the shots, even when it comes to having sex. After they have made out in a rare display of emotion, Rio tells Beth, "I like you". This may not sound like much coming from any other man, but from Rio it is quite the declaration of love. Will this now sway Beth? Will she feel too guilty to betray Rio even if it means that she gives up her chance for a better life?
