First batch of train simulators for PH Railways Institute arrives from Japan

By Manila Bulletin

The first batch of the train simulators from Japan has arrived in the country, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said.

DOTr Sec. Art Tugade said the train simulators will be used in the operation of the Philippine Railways Institute (PRI) which was set up for the country to have more train operators.

The DOTr has invested a lot in the mass transportation in the country to improve mobility amid the perennial traffic woes in Metro Manila and nearby areas.

“This is part of the grant agreement between Japan and the Philippines,” said Tugade.

The PRI is the country’s first Railways Training Institute that will serve as the planning, implementing, and regulatory agency for human resources development in the Philippine railways sector.

It was set up based on the Executive Order No. 96 series of 2019 signed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in November 2019.

“This will serve as a key for sustainable, efficient, and dependable mass transportation in the Philippines,” said Tugade.

Tugade said the train simulators are currently in a depot in Valenzuela City.
