After strangely insinuating that Drew Brees was entering the final NFL season of his Hall of Fame career, Sean Payton has backtracked, and the Saints have made sure we all know about it.

Payton claims he misspoke, and in an official post from the Saints Twitter account, has made it known that Brees is free to play as long as he wants. Good for you, Sean.

At this point, Payton and Co. better hope that this isn't actually Brees swan song, as that would leave them with a very uncertain future at the QB position. Taysom Hill is an intriguing fit, and it's understandable why the Saints placed a first-round tender on their swiss-army knife. Yet, he hasn't proven himself a capable passer and he's no longer young enough to be coined a QB of the future. That has to come through the NFL Draft.

Whether it be in the middle rounds or earlier, the Saints must take a flyer on a QB. Hill is an adequate backup for now, and may very well prove himself when called upon. New Orleans can't bank on that, though, especially since there's no common answer as to how many years Brees actually has left.
