Mariah Carey has been sued by a former nanny who is seeking compensation for “emotional distress” after working for the singer.

Maria Burgues filed the lawsuit on Monday (23 December), claiming that she was fired after complaining about her working conditions.

Burgues alleges that she was paid $25 (£19) an hour to look after Carey’s children and had to travel with them when the singer went on tour – but wasn’t paid for the extra work.

She also claims in the suit that the bodyguard of Carey’s children, Marcio Moto, used to make her feel threatened by shouting at her.

One instance is said to have occurred in December 2017 when it’s alleged that Moto threatened to kick Burgues out of the car and leave her on the side of the road while the family were driving to Las Vegas.

Burgues says that when she complained about Moto’s alleged behaviour, nothing was done.

According to the suit, there were two instances on the same day when the lives of Carey’s children were endangered because Moto was using his phone.

After the bodyguard blamed Burgues by shouting at her in front of a crowd, she was fired by Carey.

Carey’s attorney is yet to comment as he says he is yet to see the suit.

This isn’t the only lawsuit Carey has had filed against her in recent months.

The singer's former assistant, Lianna Shakhnazaryan, has claimed that she was urinated on by Carey’s manager, Stella Bulochnikov.

In November, Carey’s former housekeeper, Maria Salazar, filed a suit that claimed she wasn’t paid a suitable amount by the singer.

Carey is currently at the top of the US music charts with her 1994 single "All I Want for Christmas is You".
